Experienced Mixed Practice Vet

We at Arrowfield Vets are looking for another vet to join our lovely team. Ideally we need a mixed vet with some experience but can consider a small animal only vet (though a contribution to the OOH rota would be required). Both full and part time positions will be seriously discussed. We are strongly independent (and will be remaining so) and were the first practice to become employee owned in 2013. We are proud to give excellent first opinion care to both our large and small animal clients. We are a 10 vet practice with one additional vet on maternity leave at the moment and another full time veterinary TB tester. Our farm work is predominantly suckler cows and sheep which naturally has a seasonal aspect but we also strongly encourage herd and flock health planning and our farmers are keen to engage with us on this. Outside of covid times, we run farmers meetings to help support this. We have in house calf hospitalisation facilities, a separate lambing room and bull/tup fertility testing equipment. Our equine is our smallest part of our practice work load and is basic first opinion but certainly an area which could be grown.

Our small animal side has 3 consulting rooms, 2 operating rooms and a large separate prep room, dental room and imaging suite. We are about to upgrade our digital X-ray to a DR system and we have just purchased a dental X-ray machine and developer. We have separate cat and dog wards (with walk in kennels and underfloor heating) with isolation facilities available. We now have visiting cardiologists and soft tissue/orthopaedic surgeons visiting as needed, who we are happy to invest in their time to teach if needed. We work closely with our local veterinary physiotherapist as well. We are RCVS accredited and ISFM silver cat friendly practice.

We strongly encourage CPD which is funded as required and up to 5 days a year. Being mixed we do run our own OOH and currently this is a 1 in 8 1st call and 1 in 8 2nd call on a full time rota. We never have inexperienced vets without support available. Our wonderful team of RVNs also provide additional support on weekends OOH. We balance this with either a 4 day week or a 4.5 day working week. Holidays (incl bank hols) is equivalent to almost 7 weeks a year for full time vets. Our working hours are 8:45-5:30pm. Our full time assistant vets salary package is in the 30k-50k bracket at the moment. As we are employee owned, there is a significant tax free bonus at the end of the year in addition. We pay RCVS/VDS/BVA. We can either provide a car or if not, mileage and insurance are paid.

Herefordshire/Powys is a beautiful part of the country, especially for those who love the outdoors. We encourage staff dogs to work with a staff dog room and separate paddock for them and copious local dog walking areas. To discuss further call Wendy Phillips 07557301008 or wendy.phillips@arrowfieldvets.co.uk
